Beste is from Turkey. She got both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from İstanbul University. She was also an undergrad exchange student in Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Poland. Beste is a yeast person. During her undergrad years, she started working with fission yeast upon her friend’s suggestion, and has not stopped since. She first studied oxidative stress and metabolism, and now continues to study interactions between cell polarity modules. She joined Sawin Lab as a Darwin Trust student in 2021.
